Top 10 Tips for Writing for the Web

  1. Think about what people might be looking for when they come to your site - what do they want to know, find out, have answered?

  2. Make sure your information is up-to-date and accurate or evergreen in nature.

  3. Be specific, provide concrete examples.

  4. Use the "inverted pyramid" - place the most important information first, don't make people hunt around for it

  5. Give your writing some personality - let your voice shine through, leave behind the corporate speak.

  6. Make good use of headlines, subheads and bulleted lists - people scan, they don't read, the web.

  7. Use bold text and italics to make key points stand out - but use them sparingly and strategically.

  8. Keep your sentences and paragraphs tight, short and easy to read - no big language here.

  9. Make good use of keywords so search engines will find your site.
